TESTING
All Poly-Zhaust products will pass stringent performance tests. These include the following regimen conducted by an OEM on a previous generation prototype unit:
| Test | Purpose | Results |
| On vehicle 1,000 km test | Test basic capability of product to warrant further testing | Successful |
| Acoustic drive-by test | Verify the basic acoustic capability of the M008 Poly-Zhaust | Successful |
| Spontaneous combustion test | Determine if the Poly-Zhaust can withstand a fire for at least 3 minutes | Successful |
| 3,000-hour oven test | Determine the durability of the polymers under heat loading conditions, particularly their tensile modulus and the coefficient of thermal conductivity of the bush to maintain its performance | Successful |
| 500-hour simulated surface test | Testing on exhaust simulator to determine effect of varying pipe surface temperatures | Successful |
| 3,000-hour on vehicle test | Verify the overall durability a thermal capabilities | Successful |
| Climate Changing Evaluation | Verify the Poly-Zhaust capacity for leak resistance within the specified 20litres/hour | Successful |
The PZ6 is specified to allow for 550°C pipe temperature, allowing it to cope with most modern engines. Future units will have higher tolerances.
Acoustic tests are just as stringent. Poly-Zhaust has the ability to perform a full acoustic characterisation and performance evaluation, including:
- Variation of overall A-weighted sound pressure level with engine rpm.
- Octave or third-octave frequency spectra at specified rpm intervals.
- Order tracking analysis under load
- Maximum power and torque.
- Variation of power and torque with rpm.
- Sound pressure level and frequency spectrum at idle.
- Sound pressure levels, and frequency spectra during special operations required by the catalytic converter or other installed equipment.
- Drive-by noise levels (A-weighted SPL) at various road speeds.
- Acceleration noise measurement.
- Interior sound levels at various interior locations under various operating conditions.
