BENEFITS
Weight
The lighter materials and improved overall acoustic efficiency of Poly-Zhaust allow for dramatic weight savings. In a specific case study, a polymeric unit weighting 4,5 kg performed similarly to a 13,8 kg steel reflective muffler. Once connecting pipes and brackets have been added the weight reduction remains over 50 percent.
Smaller than conventional silencers.
This feature enables the redesign of platforms to allow for, inter-alia, increased trunk space.

Excellent sound reduction characteristics
The noise reduction characteristics of the Poly-Zhaust are superior to a typical steel muffler. Recent testing of a standard OEM muffler of 22 litres versus a 10 litre Poly-Zhaust showed the OEM muffler to produce double the sound energy than the Poly-Zhaust, despite the OEM muffler being significantly larger.
The above graph shows an A-weighted OASPL curve comparing a basic, single pipe Poly-Zhaust with a 7 litre volume (M008), a twin-tube Poly-Zhaust of equivalent volume (MTP), with a standard 22 litre OEM reflective steel muffler, where efficiency of the polymeric units is clearly demonstrated.
Less noise propagation
Aside from the acoustic benefits as far as exhaust-line attenuation are concerned, the use of a well-damped structure provides benefits from a mechanical noise perspective. The use of a Poly-Zhaust with a specific tuned mass could allow for the removal of dampers in certain cases, and greatly enhance NVH characteristics.
Substantially reduced heat reflection.
The average surface temperature of the Poly-Zhaust under normal conditions ranges between 35°C and 45°C. With the surface temperatures of metal silencers exceeding 175°C, the Poly-Zhaust allows manufacturers to remove costly and space inefficient heat shielding.
Flexibility of design shape
| Vehicle designs can exploit features such as smaller size, lighter weight, and lower surface temperatures, thereby allowing the mufflers to be moulded into many complex shapes. | |
| Motor vehicle designers can also reassess the parameters for integrating their exhaust systems, such as incorporating the muffler within the rear bumper, or encapsulating it into an aerodynamic tray under the rear of the vehicle. | |
Rust free polymeric casing, with less possibility of degradation
The rust-free casing, combined with the application of corrosion resistant 304 stainless steel piping enables the Poly-Zhaust to offer a lifetime non-corrosion warranty.
Free Flow system
The inherent benefits of a free flow muffler system enable engineers to exploit the consequently improved engine power output to reduce fuel consumption.
Colour
The Poly-Zhaust can be produced in any specified colour. Steel systems are costly to colour and consequently are very eye catching if not recessed into the floor pan. The standard black colour of the Poly-Zhaust, in itself, makes it less obvious under the vehicle.
